Michelle:

My head roared with pain. Inside, I whimpered, but outside, I didn’t move.

The musky spice smell had returned, but it was far stronger than before.

Was it me? Did I smell? Was it something I was laying in? Or wearing?

Why wouldn’t the smell go away? The harsh smell assaulted my aching head even more.

I wanted to turn my head away. I was desperate to cover my nose, but had no power in my limbs to do anything.

Sudden wailing rose through my confusion.

Someone sniffled and my heart stuttered. I wasn’t alone. I wasn’t the one crying, then.

Please, Lord, make it stop!

Someone touched my hair and a scream lodged in my throat. Oh, Father above, help me! Help me, please!

Fingers raked through my hair, catching on a knot and shooting pain through my scalp.

I moaned, but the wailing covered the sound.

Then came the muttering. I strained to listen, but nothing made sense.

Over and over again, the muttering continued, but it never became clearer to me.

Please. Lord, please. Send someone for me. I wanted to ask for Kyle but knew that wasn’t an option anymore. Chelsea wasn’t safe here either.

Sleep threatened to take me back under. I wanted to fight. I wanted to understand. But I also wanted to escape the pain and the strong smell.

Did angels cry? Was I, in this very minute, being ministered to by an angel?

Father? I don’t understand.

The hand in my hair slipped, gripping my shoulder, the wailing reaching new levels.

Then one word emerged from the gibberish: Home.
